Complaining

I only find myself ever annoyed at things that other people are responsible for, and often I get annoyed about complaints more than anything. For example, for years of being driven to school I'd have to sit listening to my mother swearing and shouting about every living thing around her. That guy put his breaks on when you weren't ready? Maybe shouldn't have been driving so close behind at such a high speed, hm?

If people have genuine complaints they should be listened to, but people that just drivel on about the most stupidly ridiculous and trivial things have no place in my hearing range, I prefer positivity, because as much as people try and put overly positive people down, I'd rather be happy and not miserable that other people are happy

Complaining does not equal negativity in all the cases. Complaints bring change and also justice in situations where the attitude doesn't allow for it.

For example, if people didn't complain about being badly treated for being black or being gay or being female or disabled, then we would still be living in societies where those groups of people are harshly discriminated against. That isn't to say that all those things have totally stopped because there are still people who are racist, sexist and homophobic and stuff but the point is that if people from generations past hadn't complained about being badly treated for such trivial things like that, society would not have changed it's perceptions and become more inclusive as a result.

Equally, if you were unfairly dismissed from your job at work, there are processes in place that allow you to complain and reap compensation.

The point is complaining isn't always bad - and to be honest, I think sometimes people just naturally bond by complaining about something they don't agree with. Doesn't really matter if they're right about it or not but if two people learn to like each other because they share the same opinion then I guess that's not bad either.

Complaining is just part of the human condition and effects everybody. In the developed world people will complain about all sorts of things, even if it's something relatively insignificant, and a lot of the time people vent that frustration online so people see more complaining than they would without the internet. In less fortunate countries people will still complain about things too because they might be struggling, they might be hungry or homeless or sick. Everybody does it.

Even putting a certain spin on the question "why do people complain?" could be perceived as complaining if it's backed up with an emotion about how someone doesn't like it or how they think things would be better without it. It's just a thing that happens when people have opinions about stuff.

I don't claim to believe the world is better off without complaining, of course in those cases it's been massively beneficial, but I think everyone can agree that trivial complains are just wasted breath, especially hypocritical ones

Are they though? If it helps relieves stress, why can't someone complain about something trivial? And also, if you start telling people they can't complain about some things you're restricting their freedom of speech.
